Related to my off-beat, what is WRONG with this woman post the other day, called There’s Something More To Blogging, Michael Motherwell takes one of my grunt themes to a different angle. He asks, Is The Web “Dumbing” Everything Down?
I’ve concluded that the answer is YES, because there is more opportunity for mass exposure due to the Internet. Thus, anyone can participate, even if they’re unskilled or uneducated. Opinion outweighs accuracy. And deep down inside, I just can’t help but think we’re not applying it thoughtfully. We’ve only touched the surface. There’s something more, yet to be discovered and developed. Just my gut feeling…
The X Change Web Analytics Conference has added more speakers and covers a wide range of topics including persuasion architecture, search analytics and attitudinal research in web analytics. Held in September, in California’s Napa wine country, this one looks like a tremendously valuable event.
It’s a relief to hear from Kalena Jordan, who needed time off for a mysterious medical emergency. She’s described her scare in The 3 most beautiful words in the English language. Kal, if you’re reading this, I tearfully read your story and rejoice in your good news. Welcome back.

I’m glad Kalena came out of her surgery well.
I know what you mean about dumbing it down; it can be difficult to balance between the audience’s knowledge level and industry terminolgy and knowledge. On a similar note, George and I just started a new blog/site that is interesting and fun for us, but in a sphere in which there are strong and heartfelt opinions and emotions. One gets a lot of excited emails making claims of all kinds (this is happening; so-and-so is doing that) — without so much as a citation or link to indicate who said it or where the data came from. In order to keep the site from turning into a full-tilt evidence-less speculation fest, I’ve asked that all posts either be direct observation without assumption or link to the data backing up whatever is said. (That’s easy enough to ensure, since I’m the one who does the actual posting, but I can’t tell you how much time I’ve spent searching for information sources for material submitted; either I am lucky enough to find it or it gets sent it back to the author.) However, although I have barely started promoting the site, initial feedback indicates that the few people visiting the site (lol) appreciate that there’s actual data there. Anyway, it’s fun and I’m happy that we’re building something that people may find useful.
