You think I’m kidding? If you read this, beware. The days of that sleek string bikini view of the beach are threatened due to the fact that women no longer want to go away on weekend getaways.

According to new research by Oxygen Network, in Oxygen Network Studies Girls Gone Wired, its much more normal for women to be wanting computer gadgets than, say, finger nail polish or that new Sunbeam Blender.

“…if given the choice most women would prefer a new gadget over big-ticket luxury purchases like a diamond solitaire necklace or weekend getaway.”

There’s some interesting stats.

“76 percent of those polled said they find functionality more important than appearance when it comes to gadgets like cell phones. Interestingly, only 15 percent of participants saw the cell phone as a fashion accessory first and foremost.”

“To back that up, statistics show that 83 percent of women polled are fearless when it comes to playing around with new tech gadgets, and the majority of those women prefer a “hands-on” approach in learning how to use new devices.”

For pete’s sake. Of course we are fearless around gadgets. We wear bras, panty hose, stomach sucking contraptions, boob pushup contraptions, and bravely operate ovens, microwaves, washers, dryers, vacum cleaners, and funky things like garlic crushers and apple slicers.

And marketers are excited because we’ve figured out the delights of the cell phone?
