Cre8pc Going Under

in Kim Krause Berg, Search Engines

This is my last post for an uncertain period of time. I wasn’t sure when to do it, but this week is just nuts so while I’m thinking of it, here’s what’s happening.

I’m going in for surgery on Monday, February 19, to repair a torn meniscus in my left knee. Over the past two years I learned I have arthritis in my lower back and knees, on top of Hashimoto’s auto immune disease. This just means my thyroid no longer functions without medicine and pain management is unusually difficult. From what I’ve been told, the Hashimoto’s may be the cause of the arthritis (they both appeared together).

I think my knee was torn during a baseball game the summer of 2005 and I didn’t know it. I just thought the pain was part of the arthritis. We only recently discovered the damage during an MRI.

This is routine surgery. I’ll be back as soon as I can.

Kim Accept my warm wishes for a quick recovery. Take all the time you need to heal. I’ll miss reading your words, but some things are more important.

2 Lisa 02.14.07 at 9:48 pm

Sitting here in California sending good, fast healing thoughts your way, Kim.

Know that we’ll miss you desperately while you’re recovering! I’m talking serious withdrawal symptons here, with like, violent shaking and sudden mood swings and stuff. :)

3 Matt McGee 02.14.07 at 10:23 pm

We’ll be rooting for a quick return, Kim.

4 Bill 02.14.07 at 11:05 pm

Looking forward to seeing you walking around soon, Kim. :)

Hope that all goes well, and you are up, and about shortly.

I don’t know what part of California Lisa is in, but if she could send some warm weather this way while she’s at it, that would be really nice. :)

Sending tons of positive thoughts to you, Kim. I’ll even throw a little magic pixie dust in the air to help speed your recovery. Seriously, I hope all goes well, and the pain diminishes greatly.

Wow, Kim. Sorry to hear it.

My best for a speedy recovery and an end to body problems and pain.

Bill, I’d trade you snow and weather for eternal sunshine any day! I’m still an East Coast girl at heart. :)

8 John 02.15.07 at 3:40 am

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

9 Dave Child 02.15.07 at 6:27 am

Good luck, Kim. Hope to see you back sooner rather than later!

There’s snow and weather, Lisa, and then there’s solid ice.

And the forecasts were saying that Kim was getting more of snow and ice than I did - be careful on that, Kim.

Baseball injury, Kim? You’re going to miss spring training with the timing of this surgery.

11 Andy Beal 02.15.07 at 8:15 am

Best of luck Kim. I hope everything goes well.

Thanks all! Lisa, I burst out laughing at your first comment. I’ve really been tense and the visual you provided was enough to send me into fits of giggles.

I’ve not gone outside. Ice is everywhere. A fall would not be wise right now. We got some snow, but more of the mess is ice. Kids had off from school yesterday and went in late today.

My knee went out on me while watching Stefan play baseball, btw. I wasn’t playing. I’m a total cheerleader-mom (for all my kids’ sports.) I remember extreme pain and wondering what the heck happened, and wearing a knee brace for a long time, but never thinking I had actually done something to it.

I also, in the past 2 years, watched a good friend, my mom and my ex-mother-in-law (I remain on good terms with) go through double knee replacement surgery. I know I face that, but they refuse to let me have new knees, saying I’m “too young” and replacements last only 10 years. I’ve been trying to avoid surgery and have been putting up with the pain, but there comes a point when the choice is removed. What I’m having done is far less an ordeal than knee replacement and I should be back in action much sooner.

I want to exercise so badly I DREAM about it. Now that’s just weird.

Pep talks from knee surgery survivors are welcomed!!!

Kim -

Best of luck and just think about how great you will feel with a brand new knee!

Chris

PS> And who said that ACL surgery was only for football players? :)

All the best with your operation, Kim. We’ll be waiting with bated breath for your return. Good luck!

Rand, are you kidding? I fully expect to dance at your wedding, or at least pretend to be there, LOL

:)

Chris, yes. I feel so cool. Donavon McNabb and I are buds.

A note from a lurker… I wish you well.

23 Kal 02.17.07 at 5:53 am

Good vibes coming at you from Down Under too Kim! I’m sure you’ll be out of hospital before you can say “sponge bath”. Make sure you make the most of the pampering you’re bound to get from the family.

24 Sohaib 02.20.07 at 4:33 am

Best wishes for a quick recovery, looking fwd. for your next post :)

25 Gerry Grant 02.21.07 at 6:23 pm

I am very sorry to hear that. I suppose that is why I did not hear back on my offer of some work. Just when I need you go and do this.

Please take care of yourself and give me a call when you are ready to do some usability reports for me.

26 cre8pc 02.23.07 at 1:30 pm

LOL

I did call the week before and left a message, and then the surgery took over my brain.

But, I’m doing REALLY WELL and plan to be back at my desk next week. Will chase you down then :)
