Capitol One Owns CNN

Banner blindness? How about the practice of owning a web site’s real estate and holding it hostage in the name of marketing?

CNN.com does this often and each time I wonder at the logic of placing 3, 4, 5 or more ads from the same company on a homepage.

Isn’t this a bit overkill?

Of course it is overkill and these banner types are also common on many Danish media.

Traditional interruptive advertising today gives less result than earlier, so what is traditionally minded advertisers to do? What they can do: Bigger, more interruption, more noise.

Luckily that approach will kill itself eventually.

The only thing that could make this worse would be a massive pop-up that shows up randomly while reading an article. All parties involved would probably be better off with just one or two ads total on the page.
