Still working on slowing down my traditional hectic pace (why does it take work to slow me down?) I finally had to call a halt to new client work until sometime around Thanksgiving.
My father-in-law has been trying to get us to travel to the Florida Keys where they have a house the entire family shares for “escapes”. I’ve never seen it. A few days ago he inquired (again) about why. I told him that although hubby and I took no time off, no vacation, no holiday weekend off and no camping trips with the kids this summer, it seemed like we had a lot of time to enjoy ourselves anyway. It’s so weird I couldn’t even explain it to him.
Some news:
I am now the SEO/CRO/UX Manager for Marketing and Software Development at JW Bond Consultants and their partners. Finally, a company that would let me do what I love the most! They wanted and needed someone to handle web design/re-design, organic SEO and all things usability. I work out of their office. I haven’t worked outside my home office in nine years! I have a gorgeous 20 minute drive in the country to get there, where they set me up really nice with a corner desk, huge sunny window and sweet dual monitor PC. And, I can wear shorts and flip flops to work. Can’t beat that!
What does this mean for my consulting work? Does it mean I’m leaving Cre8asiteforums?
Ninety percent of my consulting projects are repeat business. I’ve chosen to be devoted to them and will squeeze in smaller site reviews whenever I can. There are many smaller businesses out there who come to me looking for a unique blend of SEO and usability help. I turn away too many folks these days but when someone can hang in there and wait their turn, I’m happy to assist.
Cre8asiteforums has a devoted crew working behind the scenes right now upgrading our software and designing a new user interface. I continue to handle Admin duties but am unable to be there as much I used to. After 12 years, I’m not as talkative but the forums are a no-spam, get down to brass tacks discussion type of place that’s hard to ignore. I’m not abandoning the ship yet.
Usabilityeffect.com will be taken down soon and incorporated into this site. I started out as Cre8pc in 1996 (officially) and will be returning to that brand as home-base rather than handling two sites and two brands.
I am building something new, for launch next Winter.
During the football season I’m active with my son’s Varsity High School team. He’s first string Center Guard Offense and second string Defensive Linebacker, plus other positions I never remember. I launched a Facebook page for the team and it’s very active. That, and my involvement on the Board of Directors of the local baseball Little League and my work as their head webmaster, take up a bit of my time.
