What Is Usability?

I love how Dr. Pete Myers, of UserEffect.com, created this educational 4 minute video called What Is Usability?. It’s part of his experimenting with a new “Ask Dr. Pete” section on his web site.

Dr. Peter J. Meyers (AKA “Dr. Pete”) is the President of User Effect, a former start-up executive, cognitive psychologist, and lifelong programmer. For the past 11 years, Dr. Pete has worked directly with business owners and executives to understand their goals, get to know their customers, and improve their online return on investment.

Kudos to you Pete. That was quite fun to watch!

Thanks for the link…I don’t think I would have stumbled across this otherwise. It was a really good presentation.

  2. Dr. Pete says:

Thanks, Kim :) It’s amazing how, as a group, we usability people have somehow made it so hard to understand what usability is. Despite what we preach, we often have the worst impulses of techies and academics. I’m just trying to step down from the ivory tower a bit more often.

  3. Min Namgoong says:

User-centered design is important because if Web site is not useful to users, users will not visit the Web site. Web site must meet users’ needs and users must find information when they visit the site. Designers must consider who the users of Web site are, what information users need, and more.

  4. Funny says:

I always focus on navigation and usabilty rather then strange design.

White background and stable colors are best.

  5. I have made the mistake of appealing to G rather than my users. Appealing to users first will hopefully sit well with G!
